Social Media Workshop: Presented by Andrew Flanagan this session will get you up to speed with the latest social media trends and how to use them successfully at your institution to communicate and collaborate. You can register when you arrive if you would like to take advantage of this great opportunity. Dinner for attendees will be provided.
Welcome Reception: An opportunity for people to network after the Social Media Workshop
Opening Remarks: Joyce Smith will kick the conference off with an overview of the plan for the next two days.
Preparing for an eRA Implementation: Software and vendor selection and how to build your case for implementing a new system. Everything you need to know to get your eRA project up and running. A sample QFD or "House of Quality" document will be shared for use when scoring your requirements against possible solutions.
Kuali Coeus Overview, Core Configuration: Kuali Coeus' history, technology, and configuration. What is the Kuali Foundation, how was Kuali Coeus conceived, who's involved in the effort. The core things you need to configure will be discussed in this session.
Implementing an eRA Solution – Tips and Best Practices: Vendor negotiations to best practices on how to successfully implement an eRA solution will be covered. This presenter has years of experience implementing software solutions and has developed some unique and repeatable approaches that he will share. Sample project, communications, risk management, and quality assurance plans will be provided as part of this presentation.
Migrating from Coeus to Kuali Coeus: This presentation is geared towards attendees who are concerned with their migration from Coeus to Kuali Coeus. Ben DiMolfetta of Winmill Software, a leading approved Coeus vendor will be presenting.
Technical Overview for Implementers: This session will discuss the technology stack that Kuali Coeus is based on and the many pieces that make up the solution. The application server, database options, hardware or hosted solutions, will all be addressed. There will be a lengthy questions and answers period included for this session.
Proposal Log, Institutional Proposal: Proposal Log and Institutional proposal go hand in hand in Kuali Coeus. Institutional Proposals are the first step to adopting a system such as KC as it allows for you to import legacy data and implement portions of your institution at a time. The Institutional Proposal record is a summary of the proposal which can be tracked, routed, and reported on to meet your institution's needs. We will walk through the creation of an Institutional Proposal as part of this session.
Creating Your KC Environment: Best practices for creating the environments necessary for supporting an eRA solution. In a large institution or one who has the resources we would recommend a Testing, Training, Production, and Failover environment be set up. This session will discuss the configuration of those environments, how to get the best bang for your buck, and some best practices on upgrading and testing.
General Q&A - Technical and Functional Questions: This is an optional and open session for those who would like to ask more in-depth questions.
Drawing for Giveaway and Directions for the Day: Moderas chief executive Norman Zeyak will be sharing some closing remarks and last day logistics. We will also hold the drawing for the Apple iPad or Lodging for one lucky winner.
Proposal Development: The cornerstone of KC's pre-award functionality, proposal development is a powerful tool for your institution. We will walk through the creation of a proposal in the proposal development module discussing all the aspects of the system. We will spend time demonstrating the workflow process, one of the key features of the system. If we run out of time we will finish up in the Budgets session that follows.
Budgets: This will be another demonstration session walking through creating a budget and seeing it through the workflow process.
Kuali Coeus Middleware Technical Overview: This session will cover the Enterprise Class Middleware that Kuali Coeus is based on as well as any middleware technical questions attendees may have.
Funding Opportunities: There are many places to search for funding opportunities and we will share a comprehensive list of sources and tips on how to deliver this information to your staff. We will demonstrate standard search functionality you should expect and a sneak peek at Kwest.
Ongoing Support and Maintenance Challenges: This session is for those who are planning to implement an eRA solution. Attendees will be provided with guidance on how to provide support for their implementation as well as how to maintain such a system effectively. Institutions who currently have eRA solutions should also be able to pick up some useful tips from this presentation.
Reporting for End Users, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing: Reporting has traditionally been a weakness of eRA solutions. This session will cover the possible data warehousing options and business intelligence reporting for end users. We will demonstrate the Pentaho reporting tool which is the product of choice selected by the Kuali Foundation.
The Future of Kuali Coeus: The recent release of v2.0 demonstrated that the Kuali Foundation is able to deliver in a timely manner. There are some exciting developments on the horizon and we will close with discussing what's to come!
